Hands-On: NOMOS Ahoi Neomatik 38 Date Sky Review (VIDEO)
From the beach to the boardroom!

Today, we’re diving deep into the world of horology with a timepiece that seamlessly blends style and functionality. In this video, we’ll be going hands-on with the NOMOS Ahoi Neomatik 38 date sky, a watch that not only catches the eye but also exemplifies what makes NOMOS… NOMOS! For a detailed overview, check out the video right here:

The NOMOS Ahoi Neomatik 38 Date is essentially brand new. Currently available in this Sky (blue) color and also in a Sand color. It is a remarkable piece of craftsmanship that combines the elegance of a dress watch with the robustness of a dive watch. The design is clean, sophisticated, and unmistakably NOMOS.

The Ahoi Neomatik 38 Date features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 38mm, striking the perfect balance between presence on the wrist and wearability. I was immediately enthusiastic when I heard the news that the Ahoi was finally available in this size. Absolute perfection for my smaller wrist size. Note that the case is also just 9.9mm thick, impressive all around. Lug to lug measures 48.7mm and the lug width is a nice and standard 20mm. The case is water-resistant up to 200 meters.

As you can hopefully see in the video, the watch sits very comfy on the wrist. My wrist is 16.5cm and the older, bigger Ahoi, never felt quite right on my wrist. This new smaller size feels just perfect. This watch will also have no problems whatsoever sliding under a shirt cuff, making this a very versatile watch that you can basically wear all the time, from the beach to the boardroom.

The Ahoi Neomatik is powered by the DUW 6101 automatic movement, of course, an in-house caliberCaliber The caliber ('movement') is the heart and engine of a watch. It consists of a number of interconnected components that work together. Energy is transmitted through the gear train, to the escapement mechanism. The escapement mechanism releases this energy in a controlled manner. This drives the gear train, which ultimately rotates the hands of the watch and keeps time. [More Info] by NOMOS. This is not a new caliber and it has truly been tried and tested by now. It is a reliable automatic movement.

The crownCrown The knob on the outside of the watch that you typically use to either wind the mainspring or set the time [Learn More] has three positions, one to manually wind the movement should you choose, one to set the time, and one to set the date. The red on the crown indicates the crown is unscrewed. A lovely little detail.

The dial screams NOMOS. This dial features a clean, minimalist design with both numerals and indices. The hands are rhodium-plated, with superluminova inlay in white, providing excellent legibility in low-light conditions. The date window at the 3 o’clock position is a practical addition for everyday wear. Worth mentioning is that you can set the date both forward and backward, which is never a bad thing. And the color of the date wheel matches the color of the dial, which is excellent. On the Sky Blue dial you can also see that the seconds hand is in orange, which adds a spark of color to the dial.

Whether you’re a watch enthusiast or someone looking for a versatile and reliable companion, this watch ticks all the boxes. The attention to detail, the quality of craftsmanship, and the in-house movement make it a standout piece in the world of watches. If you always wanted an Ahoi but couldn’t quite get the bigger size to fit, give this one a try and I’m sure you’ll be very pleasantly surprised.

To me, this is essentially a home run by NOMOS and a great new addition to their catalog. Before I forget, yes indeed, this watch does make for a perfect go-anywhere-do-anything wristwatch and yes it could even be your one-watch collection.
