ATELIER DE GRIFF

Release: Seiko 140th Anniversary Seiko 5, Presage, Astron and Prospex

As Seiko celebrates it’s 140th birthday, there are many new pieces introduced into the line up.  Today, we introduce four new pieces all with silver white dials from Astron, Prospex, Presage and Seiko 5 Sports.

Although they all have a white dial and blue bezel, each is unique in their own ways and these watches display Seiko’s technical expertise in watchmaking from automatic to GPS Solar.

Seiko 5

Starting with the entry level piece of the line up, the Seiko 5 Sports SRPG47, the white dial offers a nice waffle pattern with contrasting blue hands for great legibility.  Beating inside is the 4R36 workhorse from Seiko found in lower priced models. It comes on a metal bracelet and is rather high in numbers for a limited edition production at 11,000 units at 300 Euros.

Prospex

Up next is the SPB 213, which has been made in other color forms paying tribute to the original 1965 diver’s watch (make sure to check our video review of the SPB right here). The blue pained seconds hand is a nice touch of color to match the bezel while the off white/cream color in the hands offers a nice contrast with the dial and the white indexes.  The watch has water resistance of 200 meters and uses the 6R35 movement with 70 hours power reserve.

The case is a very wearable 40.5mm diameter with thickness of 13.2mm.  The SPB 213 comes with a metal bracelet as well and will be a limited edition of 6,000 units with a suggested retail price of 1,250 Euros .

Presage

Similar to the new Presage GMT released recently, this GMTGMT A GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) complication is a feature found in some watches that allows the wearer to track two time zones simultaneously. It typically includes a 24-hour hand and a bezel or a second hour hand that can be adjusted independently of the main hour hand to track the time in a different time zone. [Learn More] model shares the same specifications with the dial and bezel being the main difference.  The dial has an Asanoha or hemp leaf pattern that has been used in Japan for thousands of years in architecture and fabrics.  The watch is powered by the automatic GMT caliberCaliber The caliber ('movement') is the heart and engine of a watch. It consists of a number of interconnected components that work together. Energy is transmitted through the gear train, to the escapement mechanism. The escapement mechanism releases this energy in a controlled manner. This drives the gear train, which ultimately rotates the hands of the watch and keeps time. [More Info] 6R64, beating at 4Hz with a power reserveRéserve de marche Also known as Power Reserve. A watch's power reserve refers to the amount of time a mechanical watch can run without being wound. The power reserve of a mechanical watch can vary depending on the size of the mainspring, the efficiency of the gear train, and the rate at which the mainspring releases energy. If a watch has a Power Reserve 'complication' it simply means that the status of the power reserve can be seen on the watch itself (either on the dial or movement side of the watch). [Learn More] of 45 hours.

This comes in a case with 42.4mm diameter and height of 13.7mm while offering 100 meters of water resistance.  It also comes with a bracelet and a suggested retail price of 1,450 and will be limited to 3,500 units.

Astron

The Seiko Astron GSP Solar SSH093 retains the same curved case and lugs as the original Quartz Astron watch from 1969 with a modern GSP movement.  The Dual Time 5X53 Caliber adjusts the exact time anywhere in the world with just the power of light and also offerrs high-speed time zeon adjustments and a Time Transfer function.

The watch also comes with a dual time AM/PM function and the perpetual calendarPerpetual Calendar A perpetual calendar is a complication in a mechanical watch that automatically adjusts for the different lengths of the months, including February, and leap years, and (almost) never requires manual adjustments. It has a mechanism that takes into account the different number of days in each month, including leap years, and automatically adjusts the date, day, month and year accordingly [Learn More] is correct to the year 2100.  To offer great legibility, this silver dial has blue accents and blue hands with a blue ceramic bezel.  The indexes are also polished as well!   With all that, this watch comes inside a case with 42.7mm diameter and thickness of 13.3mm.  It is also paired with a 3 link metal bracelet with a suggested retail price of 2,300 Euros and limited to 1,400 units.

As the silvery white dial paired with blue bezel exudes summer vibes, all four limited editions will be available to Seiko Boutiques and selected retailera in May 2021.
