SHOP: Charity

We’ve been searching for a good cause to support for a while now. As we have customers pretty much around the globe, it was difficult picking ‘one’ cause that would benefit all. So we went for something all of us can surely appreciate: Clean air. To that goal, we made a sizable donation to plant a forest. And on April 5th of 2018, the #watchfam forest was born.

In order to achieve this, we made the donation to BOS+, a Belgian non-profit organization dedicated to forest conservation, sustainable forest management, reforestation, afforestation and forest restoration. They are active in Belgium and around the globe. Key ongoing projects outside Belgium are currently focused on the Andes-Amazon region of Latin America, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru.

Where’s the party at?

For our ‘first’, we’ve picked a specific project: the planting of a forest not too far from us. Reason we chose to support the planting of a forest nearby is a) it’s fun to go see what happens with the donation and b) so we could actually ‘check’ what is happening with that donation (if you read the news at all, you’ll understand why we did that). Result is that there’s now an (un)official #watchfam forest growing in Belgium.

As you know we take the greatest care in sourcing only the highest quality materials This also implies materials which are manufactured as sustainable and clean as possible. We are also aware that we are essentially an online shop, and we do ship packages all over the globe, we are not blind to the fact that this implies a certain footprint. For said reasons, we started looking for a project to support that helps us reduce our impact on the environment.

We tried to make the donation in the name of the #watchfam. We weren’t able to get it officially named ‘The #watchfam forrest’, we hope you don’t mind, we did try 🙂 In our hearts and minds though, it’ll be forever named, the #watchfam forest. After all, it is all of you, our customers, who are responsible for this becoming reality.

Donation

Just to be clear, we do not own this little piece of forest. The donation was used to pay for the trees and planting thereof, we did not buy the forest. It is not the largest of forests by any means and is a bit smaller than a football field. Hey, you gotta start somewhere… Thank you for your continued support.
